Colt Police Positive .38 - Bonnie and Clyde

2016/7/22 9:18:52

Question
Hello!
Can you tell us the date of manufacture of Colt Police Positive .38 SN 140978?

This gun is owned by the family of one of the lawmen who fought with Bonnie and Clyde Barrow on July 19, 1933 at the Red Crown Tavern and Tourist Camp near Platte City, Missouri. We think he used this handgun that night, but it looks very new to be that old. Date of manufacture will sure help.
Thanks for all you do!
Jim

Answer
Jim,

I have mixed information because I do not know enough about the specific model number to be able to give you an exact date.
If it is the Police Positive .38, the serialization would put the date of manufacture around 1922. For the Police Positive Special, D O M about 1916.

Hope this has helped.
