Question
hi brad,in 2004 i bought a kimber 25th anniversary gold match 45 acp.i understand there was only 500 made and 1911 made in the custom.when i got home i noticed the serial number for that gold match was 0006.would you consider that very low.i have never fired it and all the tags are still on it,just like the day i bought it.it is pristine.i have more fun shooting my les baer premier.do you think it'sworth keeping that way and would it be valuable to some collector in the future? thanks john krebs

Answer
Hey John,

Well, what you are asking is a tough question. You are going to get my opinion, but I can抰 guarantee that it will be the right answer.

A)   The 0006 serial number is extremely low. Usually a number like this is reserved for people who are 搘ell connected?or executives within the company. (And you are right, there were only 500 made)

B)   The gun itself should be a pretty good collectable, if you don抰 shoot it. The problem is that you will not know how much until some more time has passed.

Many firearms have substantial increases in their values over time, but then again, it can be a crap shoot. If you have the ability to leave it untouched for about 10 more years, I suppose I would do that. The Kimber name in itself will probably never net you the returns that something like a Colt would, but it still may turn out to be a good investment from an investment standpoint.
If you want something to shoot, stick with the Les Baer. The Gold Match should be a pretty cool gun, but the Baer is going to be a better shooter.

The Kimber is never going to be an extremely high dollar gun, but it should still be worth keeping. If you DO decide to keep it, make sure it is kept in a dry place, or at least well oiled so that rust will never have a chance to detract from it抯 value. Even the slightest bit of rust occurring and you can kiss your investment dollars away!

I hope this has helped.
