Citori

Question
Sir, I have a friend who is selling his Browning Citori 12 ga 28 in. Barrel, S/N 23278H57. I read on the Browning site that it has been made in 1975, but I don't know which model and what could be its value. I would rate it 80-85%. How do you recognize a Citori model from another. Which one is better for small game hunting ? Thank you, Matt

Answer
Matt,

This is a very good question. There is however no short answer. Basically, all the Citori series guns vary according to grades, models, profile, gauge, etc.

The series is chambered in all gauges with a single selective trigger. The various grades differ in the amount of ornamentation and also in the quality of the materials and workmanship used in construction. The series was introduced in 1973.

As for small game hunting and "which one is better" it is purely subjective. What is one sportsmans preference is not necessarily anothers. In my personal opinion the "least desirable" Citori model is still great !

If I had to pick one (for small game) I suppose the criteria would be something with slim lines and light weight for gauge. One Example of this is the "Upland Special" which is offered in 24" rib barrels in 12 or 20 gauge and has a weight under 6lbs.

The Citori Hunter is another example of a shotgun that
fits the description of what you are looking for. It has a beavertail forearm with high gloss walnut stock. It too is chambered in 12 and 20 gauge with various length barrels.

There are far too many models to review each and every one here. I suggest that you obtain one of the many firearm publications and spend some time "shopping".

As for the value of your friends Citori, as you can see there are many models and variations. All that I can offer is a average price for a Citori of the probable model/s that he may have. I would say the "average" hovers around $600 to $800 depending upon all the above listed features, models, and conditions.

If you can ascertain which model that he has, I can narrow down the average retail value for you.

Thanks for the question Matt.
