Ranger 5000

Question
I have a an old Ranger 5000 12 gauge, side by side, double barrel shotgun. The gun was given to me by my grandfather about 40 years ago and I know he had it for a long time before that. The stock has a couple of chips where it meets up with the metal break area. I cannot find any reference on the barrels about the type of choke(s)each barrel has. I'm assuming they are full choke but I'm not sure. Can you tell me the maker of this gun,the years this gun was manufactured and the potential value of the gun? I'm also wondering if it's worth getting it repaired and bored out for trap shooting? Any info you can provide I will be most appreciative of. Thanks Robert!

Answer
Hello Scott,Your Ranger Double was a Brand sold by Sears, between 1926 and 1942.They were manufactured for Sears by Eastern Arms Co. and Stevens.Your Right Barrel, should be Mod.Choke and the Left one should be Full Choke. They were listed in the Sears 1933 Catalog for $18.45 for Single Trigger and $16.45 for the Double Trigger. In real good condition your gun might be worth between $100 & $200.I don,t recommend spending to much money on repairs.I hope this is of some help to you.
