Question
How can you tell if it has a Damascus barrel?  Does the number 28 under the barrell mean anything?

Answer
Jack,

If it is something that you plan on shooting, you definitely want to make sure that it is not a Damascus barrel. Any quick look by a gunsmith and they would be able to confirm this for you.

That said, a Damascus barrel is a series of steel twists that upon close inspection can be seen by the naked eye. The twist will start at one end and go to the other. Generally  it is pretty apparent. These twisted strands together form the barrel.

Again, if in doubt, have it checked by a qualified gunsmith prior to discharging any modern ammo in it.

Thanks for the question Jack, I hope this helps. If not, let me know and I'll try again.
