I have a blue S&W 38 with 6" barrel and the following markings.   

Right front of frame, Made in U.S.A., MARCAS Registradas
Right rear of frame, Trade Mark
Right side of barrel, 38 S&W Special CTG.
Left lower side of barrel, #K588843 MOD 14-2
On bottom of butt, #588843
On cylinder, #08135A

For whatever it's worth:

The model 14 a version of Smith's K-38 Master Piece. I believe that ostensibly it was made to be a combat version of the target model. It has been in production since just after WWII if my memory is correct.
