age of shotgun

Question
Just out of curiosity, I was wanting to know the age of my Iver Johnson one shot, break open, 4-10 shot gun.  The serial number is 88336.  My Dad gave it to me as my first gun, and I just got curious.

Answer
Hi Rylee Jo,

Iver Johnson Arms Inc. of Middlesex, New Jersey also operated as "AMAC" American Military Arms Corp. Of Jacksonville, Arkansas.

The Iver Johnson Arms Co. was founded in 1871 in Fitchsburg, Mass. It was one of the oldest manufacture of modern firearms. The company moved its operation to Arkansas in 1984 and was purchased by AMAC in 1987. The company went out of business in 1993.

Most of the shotguns of your design were manufactured between 1909 and 1956 and in "good" condition would have a retail value of approximately $75 Of course if your Dad gave it to you as your "first gun" it is probably (I hope) priceless to you.

I hope this helps and thanks for the question.
