Does this old shotgun have any value?

2016/7/22 9:22:10

Question
It is an old shotgun made by Warner Arms Corp Norwich Conn USA, that is what is engraved on the side. It has the name "Utica Special".
Also stamped is "S30" with "54924" under it.It is still in an old worn out brown carrying case. The barrel measures 30 inches and gun breakes down into 2 peaces whenever you open it. What gauge would this be. A customer of mine owns this. It was her husbands who is deceased and she in in her 70's. I told her I would google the gun for information. Thanks

Answer
Kevin,

The Warner Arms Corp. was established in 1912 and manufactured shotguns in addition to revolvers, rifles, and pistols.

During the years of manufacture they were located in Brooklyn, N.Y. and Norwich, Connecticut. The company was purchased by N.R. Davis & Company in 1917. The N.R. Davis Co. later stopped production in 1930.

I do have reference info on a Warner Arms Corp. "Utica Special" that was available in 12ga. with either 28", 30", 32" barrels. The "Utica" name was also a trade name for a hardware store shotgun. The retail value on these seem to be relatively low $100 to $200.

As you no doubt know, its very difficult to quote any value/s to a firearm that I cannot inspect.  Also condition is very important when figuring value. You may want to have someone local inspect the gun more thoroughly to be certain of what you have before offering any $$ on same. If this is at all possible.

I hope this information helps and thanks for the question.
