Beretta 96 (92)

Question
I would like to know the procedure for unloading a (loaded and ready to be fired) Beretta 96 (or similar handgun)? Is it possible for the magazine to be ejected while the safety is OFF?
And if so, will there still be one (useable) bullet left in the barrel?
Well that was basicly 3 questions, I think the second one is the most important for me to have answered (if you dont feel like answer them all).

Thank you.

Answer
First you remove the magazine, and then you rack the slide to remove the cartridge that may be in the chamber. During this procedure, the gun must be pointed in a safe direction.

Yes, the magazine can be released and removed when the safety is off or on. The magazine release mechanism is not connected to the safety.

Yes, when the magazine is removed, there might be a cartridge still in the chamber, so the slide must be racked to remove it. Racking means to pull the slide all the way back so you can see into the chamber. If a cartridge was there, it should pop out at that time. As you can see into the chamber (at the rear end of the barrel) while the slide is being held back, you can make sure that no cartridge remains there.

In any case, always handle a gun as if it were loaded - even if you have unloaded it.

Hope this helps!

Dave
