Pennsylvania open carry law

Question
You seem to be a very knowlegable shooter and familiar with Pennsylvania. In your years of carry in PA, have you ever become aware if it is legal to carry a handgun in plain sight or "open carry"? I cant seem to get a real answer from the state police and I cant find a reg. or law on the internet that deals with open carry in PA. For every internet site that says yes, there is one that says no.
Answer
I had the same answer when I was in PA. I was advised by the local and state police and county district attorney that it was "not appropriate" to carry openly unless hunting. As far as I could tell at that time, the law for concealed carry was for carrying concealed and for having a gun in your car without being in a locked glove box, but did not say it was illegal to carry openly. When I lived in PA, there was no "shall issue" law. So I had to go along or it would be likely that my permit would not be renewed. That was in 1989. The laws in PA may be different by now.
