WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LONG AND SHORT STROKE GAS OPERATION ? IS THE M14 A SHORT STROKE ACTION ? AS A PROUD CANADIAN NRA MEMBER I THANK YOU.

Answer
The M-14 is a long stroke.
In general a short stroke has the gas port at the beginning of the barrel like the M1 carbine. It has a short operating rod. Long stroke is like the M1 Garand. It has long operating rod.
The gas port near the end of the barrel.
