Stevens visable loader

Question
Doug, I have a Stevens visible loader serial number W2XX
the Frame appears to be hardened brass, it is a reddish color
but I can see what appears to be brass thru the red
How rare is The brass frame on these and what do you think the value is

Answer
Bill,

You have a pretty typical example of the No. 70  "Visible Loading" slide action rifle from J. Stevens.  The most typical configuration was a 22" barrel and open sights.  Other variations were typically barrel length.  These command a little higher values than most J. Stevens rifles.  In 90% condition, they are worth around $350.  In 95% condition, probably around $400.  It is unusual to find a rifle of this type in better than 95% condition.  A rifle of this type in "new and unfired" condition can go for in excess of $550.

Hope this helps you out...

Best regards,

Doug Little
