classic stevens 22

Question
i have one of the first stevens marksman 22 it was my great great grandfather who went on the oregon trail as a kid it has two 14s on it i would like to know who muck its worth,it is in amazing conditon. thank you

Answer
Connor,

I can only give you an approximate value since I cannot inspect the piece or do not have detailed photos.

The Stevens Marksman was made between 1912 and 1933 and was a typical boy's .22 single shot rifle during the period of manufacture.

In 98% condition, these rifles might bring between $400 to $450.  In 95% condition, the value would drop from $330 to $350.  The difference in condition is the key.  If the rifle looks like it is basically new, we can call it 98%.  If it shows signs of normal wear, but is extremely well maintained with finish and bluing intact as well as being fully operational, I'd probably put it at 95%.

If there is any wear on the finish of either the wood or metal surfaces, we are probably talking about a value of around $250...perhaps more if a collector is excited about it.

I hope this helps you out...

Best regards,

Doug Little
