Question
QUESTION: A Ivers pocket gun has been in the familey for 60 plus years made in AR.ser.#ae21728 I AM 79 years old with nowon interested in owning it.Is there any worth to this gun it is in beautiful shape?
Thanl you
Bob H

ANSWER: Bob,

Sorry, but there serial number information on the old Iver Johnson pistol.  There were several different models of pocket pistols made by Iver including the Model 1900, the Safety Hammer Model and the Safety Hammerless.  These models were the only one I know of that were made in a short barrel version that would be 'pocketable'.  They were all made between 1900 and 1950, so the time frame is correct as well.

If it is in really good condition (95% or better) the Model 1900 would be worth around $175-$200.  The Safety versions would probably be worth between $75 and $100.

These are not particularly collectable and mostly have sentimental value if they have been in the family for a while.  If you have a dealer in your area that caters to the Single Action shooting community or Cowboy Action Shooters, they might pay a little more for it.

Sorry I don't have better news.  Hope this helps you out...

Best regards,

Doug

Answer
Bob,

According to the serial number record from Colt, your Frontier Scout is a Model Q and was manufactured in 1962.  That would put it at about 49 years ago.  In 98% condition, you could expect to get $450 or so for it.  If you have the original box, you can add $50 or so.  The extra cylinder adds another $50, so you can figure around $550 to $600.

Understand that a gun dealer will only offer you about 50% of the value you could sell it for yourself.  You might want to consider offering it on either GunBroker.com or GunsAmerica.com as you would likely get much more for it that you would if you went to a dealer.

Again, this gun would be considered to be collectable by a Cowboy Action Shooter type of person.

Hope this helps you out...
