jungle carbine

Question
can you tell about this gun on the left side of the receiver no 5 MKIROF (F) 9/45 p3523

Answer
Hello Mark. There were 169,807 British Jungle Carbines manufactured by (F) Fazakerley in Liverpool during 1945. The model NO.5 is an MK1 version in a carbine, or short rifle. The p3523 is the actual serial number assigned to this rifle. Most of the information found on this rifle will not be stamped on the receiver, but written in electro pencil. Matching serial numbers will be on the receiver(in your case), on the rear flat of the bolt, left side of the barrel knox form and magazine. These are also in elecro pencil. Sometimes it will be electro pencilled on the inside of the triggerguard. The Stock may be stamped, as well. Serial number codes will only consist of from 2 to 4 digits on the No.5. If there are 5 digits, this only applies to the No.4 conversions. Since there are so many ways to counterfeit the No.5, I am directing you to a web sight I found that contains several ways to spot a counterfeit No.5. www.surplusrifleforum.com. I hope this answers your questions and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
