380 cal ammo

Question
All ammo manufacturers have their 380 acp ammo on backorder. How long is the average wait time and would it be better just to buy when it gets back on the shelf?

Answer
Hi Ken.

You can find ammunition but it may take a little while longer than normal due to the election results and the currently anti-gun administration. When it hits the shelf at a store with fair prices then it typically sells fast so you have to check the local stores every few days. Ask the manager when their trucks come in and then try to go early that morning or late that night when they are stocking. Also try numerous websites such as sportsmansguide.com, cheaperthandirt.com, cabelas.com, midwayusa.com and any others which are big sellers. You might have to check every few days for several weeks but you will find it.

If you don't need to shoot right now then just wait a few months and the supply should be a little better after the manufacturers catch up. Another alternative is to buy some reloading equipment and components to make your own. Another thing is to post a "wanted" ad in a local paper and you can buy some from another shooter that just has extra sitting on the shelf.

If you do find some then I would only recommend spending 5-10% more than normal price. Any higher than that and the seller is just taking advantage of the shortage to make money at your expense. This encourages hoarding and makes the shortage worse. So don't reward the hoarders. Ignore them and keep looking and you will find it for a fair price eventually.

Good luck!

Bob
