virginian dragoon

Question
QUESTION: I have accquired a virginian dragoon in 45 colt. the words "virginian dragoon cal 45 colt" on left side of bbl are in gold as is the pat. date.  serial no. D 015x.  can you tell me any thing about it?  thanks,  red

ANSWER: Hello Dan. You ask about a Virginia Dragoon in 45 colt with serial # D 015x. This firearm was manufactured around 1983. The D stands for Deputy Model. This revolver had a 5 inch barrel with fixed sights, along with a gold trigger and hammer. It has a heavy frame that was developed in the mid-70's, therefore, distinguishing it from the earlier import models. Interarms of Alexandria,VA. was established by Sam Cummings around 1954-55 as Interarmco(International Armaments Corporation). They quickly became the largest privately owned firearms distributor in the world. They imported and distributed many items including firearms from Rossi, Walther, Mauser, Astra, and Whitworth. These were all high quality firearms. Older models of exceptionally high quality are worth a premium to collectors as well as shooters. One of the imported models was imported from Europe under the name of Hammerli. The serial # for this model began with a C prefix. I hope this gives you something to add to your file of interesting facts and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage

QUESTION: Charles,  the trigger and hammer on this gun are not gold. they are SS and very bright.  they appear to be original but I don't know for sure.  Do you know if any were made without gold trigger and hammer?  thanks.......red

Answer
Hello Dan. Yes, there were Dragoons built with shinny steal triggers and hammers. There were some revolvers that were special orders in many different configureations.Your Dragoon may be one of these, or it could have been done by a previous owner. Whatever the case, it is still a very fine reproduction.I hope this helps and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
