Bullet Shelf Life: Maintaining Ammunition Quality
Question
I have a 38 special revolver and have bullets for it that have been around for a
couple of years or such, they have been in a drawer in my home, is there a shelf
life on bullets? your answer is greatly appreciated,
Regards,
Tony
Answer
Tony, since revolver cartridges are not fed into the gun (just dropped into the chambers), there is little danger of an over-all cartridge length change.
Ammunition that is either properly sealed OR kept in a climate controlled area (such as your house) have lasted more than a century. If you're concerned, for piece of mind get another box, but I seriously doubt there is any issue with the cartridges.
