I inherited my da's H&R 922 revolver(holds 9 rounds)it's a 6' barrel with S#36742. About how old is it?

Answer
The model 922 had different production runs.
The first model has walnut grips or Tenite grips was made from 1919 to outbreak of WWII. The 2nd issue ran from 1951 to 1982.
Harrington and Richardson went bankrupt in 1986.
I know of no serial number database publicly available.
In any case its worth $50 to $150 depending on model variation
Its greatest value as a family heirloom.
