1971 browning safari grade

Question
Hi Jim. I just sent you a question but forgot to include the serial number. Its 61193l71.
Thanks

Answer
Simon,

Assuming the receiver is blued with no engraving and the letter code between the 3 & 7 in your serial number is an "L". Then you have a Safari Grade Bolt Action Rifle. If the receiver is blued with engraving on the sides, it is a Medallion Grade. If it has game scenes engraved and the receiver is greyed then you have an Olympian Grade.

Prior to 1968, the letter codes were different for each grade in the Browning Bolt Action Rifle. In 1968, due to new gun laws, Browning went to the same letter code, "L" for all of the calibers except the Sako Action calibers. Hope this helps.

Jim
