Semi-Automatic Handguns: How They Load & Trigger Mechanisms

Question
Is there a hand gun that can load a round from the clip with only a pull of the trigger? (ex: no round in the chamber, clip is inserted, rail is forward. all you have to do is pull the trigger and a round will load wihtout cocking the gun)

Answer
Kyle,

This would truly be the 'magic' gun.  What you are looking for is a 'semi auto' that will automatically load the chamber with a trigger pull.

To my knowledge, such a gun does not exist.  The mechanics of what the gun would have to do on the trigger pull just don't work.  Semi-automatic handguns are designed to operated with a closed breach.  The gun you describe would have to ratchet back the slide far enough to allow a round to load and then allow it to fall forward, closing the breach.  This is too complex to achieve any level of reliability in my opinion.  I suspect that most gun manufacturers agree with me which is why it doesn't exist.

If your concern is carrying with a round in the chamber, please understand that if done properly, it is perfectly safe.  If you carry a pistol with a safety in a holster that covers the trigger area, there is virtually no chance of an unintentional discharge.  Even Glock pistols which only have a trigger safety can be safely carried with a round in the chamber as long as the trigger is covered.

Anyway, hope this has answered your question...

Regards,

Doug
