US Revolver Reply

Question
Bob, you answered my question requesting additional information (I need to know the exact words, letters, numbers, and markings that are stamped on the gun. Look over the barrel, grips, cylinder, etc. and let me know everything that you find. It sounds like it might be an old target model made for the USRA by Harrington & Richardson but without a model number or more info it is hard to tell. I can probably give you some more info and several links once I have enough data to identify it. Also describe the size, finish, and type of action to the best of your ability.

Take care.
Bob

but did not tell me how to get it to you, I made 4 pictures of the gun and would like to e-mail them to you. I do not know about guns and don't know how to explain its action.
Do you have an e-mail address I can send the pictures to?
Thanks, Paul

Answer

UPDATE:

Hello again Paul.

I just received your photos. Your firearm was made by the Iver Johnson company that has operated under a number of different names and locations as follows:

1871-1883 did business as "Johnson Bye & Co."
1883-1984 located in Fitchburg, MA
1871-1891 did business as "Iver Johnson & Co."
1891      did business as "Iver Johnson's Arms & Cycle Works"
1975      did business as "Iver Johnson's Arms, Inc."
1977      located in Middlesex, NJ
1983      purchased Universal Firearms, Inc.
1984-1993 located in Jacksonville, AR
1987      was acquired by American Military Arms Corporation (AMAC)
1993      AMAC ceased operations
2004      new "Iver Johnson Arms, Inc." company formed in Rockledge, FL

Iver Johnson apparently used a batch of spare parts to manufacture some firearms that were a bit different than their other models so they stamped these with "U.S. Revolver Co." instead of their normal company name. There are numerous model numbers and configurations for these firearms but yours appears to be a Model 1900 with top break action, 4.5" barrel, fixed sights, blue finish, and rubber grips. This model was manufactured between 1900-1947 and the serial number will allow you to find the exact date, however you first have to confirm the proper serial number which should be stamped in several locations. See the following site for details on how to confirm the proper serial number:

You can purchase the Blue Book of Firearms data for this firearm online, either as the complete book or as a single section which is just for your firearm. Here is the link to the Iver Johnson section:

https://store.bluebookinc.com/InstantAccess/Price.aspx?product=5&id=6509

I recommend buying the entire Iver Johnson section for $15 since it will include all models but you can also get the Model 1900 section for only $5 if you want to save a few bucks. The blue book info. might include the serial number data but if not then you can contact the author of the collector site above and he can probably confirm the date when your gun was made. You can also purchase a book dedicated to these firearms:

Hope this helps!
