Choosing a .357 Magnum Revolver for General Purpose Use: A Buyer's Guide

Question
I am interested in a general purpose handgun and believe a .357 magnum revolver would fit the bill.  I would purchase a revolver in a medium frame with a 4 inch barrel.  It is my believe that such handguns are versatile and useful in a wide range of scenarios including sport and defense.  Should I restrict myself to S&W or Ruger, or do Taurus and other manufacturers produce a revolver of this type that would be durable, dependable, and accurate?

Answer
Dave,

I'm not a big revolver guy, though for what it's worth, I like all the ones you've mentioned.  Associates who ARE revolver guys like the Smiths the best.

I've got a small 2" Taurus that I slip in my jacket from time to time if I have to run out to the store. For value for money, durability, etc, I like the Rugers a great deal.

In sum, I like all the guns you've mentioned. The revolver devotes I know will only have Smiths, but I don't think you could go wrong with either of the other two.
