Identifying & Valuing Vintage Bolt-Action Shotguns - Sears Roebuck Model 14
Question
I have a sears Roebuck and co. shotgun its a 16ga bolt action and i was wondering if you know the year and value of the gun? its a model 14
Answer
Austin,
I cannot find any reference to the model that you have indicated. Assigning values to specific guns is not something that can be accomplished easily without actually having someone physically inspect the gun, and it is also not something that I will be especially good at with older models of rifles and shotguns.
Generally speaking, Sears Roebuck & Co. sold guns from many different manufacturers under their name. The guns would generally be valued only as "shooters', as opposed to collectors. A bolt action shotgun in 16 gauge right now will have little value as a shooter, as there are many other actions and chamberings that are faster and more efficient for hunting. The value can vary widely from one geographic area of the country to the next, but my experience is that in good working condition it will only fetch between $60 to $130.
Sears discontinued the sale of firearms around 1980.
I hope this helps.
