Value of Colt gun

Question
I have a Colt single action Frintier Scout 22 magnum, Colt's PT FA Mfg. Co. Hartford, Conn.Looks like 4 inch or little over barrel. I have the serial nimber. Gun is in excellet cond. How can I find what it is worth?

Answer
Jo,

I'm assuming that you are referring to the Colt Frontier Scout.

This model was a scaled down version of the single action army and is chambered for the .22LR/.22mag.  it is offered in 4.25", 4.75" and 9.5" barrels. It has an alloy frame.

The first year frames were duotone with the frame in white and the balance in blue. All blue versions with wood grips became available in 1958 and in 1961 the duotone model was eliminated from production.

The .22mag. model was first available in 1959 and in 1964 dual cylinders were introduced in. These models have "F" or "Q" suffix in the serial numbers.

In 1960 the "K" series Scout was introduced which had a heavy frame, nickle plating, with wood grips. There were some "commemoratives" made in this model also. This series was later discontinued in 1970.

A Frontier Scout in "very-good" condition has an approximate retail value of $200 with a "Q" and "F" series being worth about 20% more. If you have an extra cylinder add about 10%.

Thank you for the question Jo.
