1940s ? single-shot .22

Question
Hi Paul! I'm 63 and when I was about 8 years old I fired a .22 rifle for the first time. I was gun crazy and would love to find a rifle like the first one I shot. I believe that it may have been a Savage but I am not sure. It had a fairly short barrel, was a single-shot and it had a cone-shaped knob that had to be pulled back to cock after loading the chamber. I am just guessing but I think the rifle would have been around 1940. I fired it around 1951. I would need a model number to do a search.  Thanks, Bill

Answer
They made a lot of single shot rifles.
If your sure it was a Savage Rifle I suggest getting a copy of this book.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/094289300X/savage99
Then see if you find a picture of it.

If your not sure try a copy of Modern Gun Values.
There are many pictures in this as well.

If I had to guess I'd say look at a Savage Model 3
I could not find a photo of one.
