westernfield shotguns

Question
I have just received my grandfathers westernfield 16 gauge bolt action shotgun that he had bought from Montgomery Wards.  I was wondering if by chance you could help me find out information on this gun.  I'd like to know when it was manufactured and if it is worth any money. Here are the numbers i was able to find on the gun: 353kn-163a model 30.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
James,

The Westernfield was a trade name used on guns that were manufactured for Montgomery Wards. The Westernfield model 30 is the same as the Savage model 520 which is the company that produced the M30.

They were of hammerless design and capable of holding 6 shells. They had a checkered walnut stock and forearm. The gun sold new for around $45 in the 20's.

A model 30 in "good" condition would have an approximate retail value of $125 to $150.

Thanks for the question James.
