In the United States in 2020, there were 45,222 gun-related deaths, including 24,292 suicides and 19,384 homicides. Of the 19,384 homicides, 14,414 were committed with a handgun, the most common type of firearm used in homicides. This number has remained relatively stable over the past decade, with an average of 14,500 handgun homicides per year from 2010 to 2020.
