Ollie While Moving

2016/7/22 10:50:22

Question
Alright... I have probably been skateboarding for 3 to 4 weeks and read on a website to practice your ollie when first starting out on the grass, for a soft landing and so your skateboard doesn't roll out from underneath you. Is this a bad idea? I was pretty dedicated to learn how to do at least a decent ollie (I know that i haven't been skateboarding long enough to "master" it) I can probably ollie 1 deck stationary now .... on almost any surface. My problem is that I cannot ollie while moving... The board seems to go flying out in front of me in the air and does almost like a 180 (lol I always think that would be cool to land on the board after it did that :P) I was wondering why this happens, and obviously what I need to do to fix it.

Thnx Much
Jay

Answer
Hey, thanks for the email. You have nothing to worry about. If you can ollie over 6 inches after only a month, even in grass or carpet, which is always a great place to learn most any trick first, you're doing better than most people. Your problem about the moving ollie is that you may be chickening out when it comes down to it. It's natural. The ground is hard and your body isn't quite comfortable enough to have the confidence needed to actually try and land it. Just keep ollieing all day, ever day, and you'll be surprised at how fast you'll progress. Good luck!
