THE BUILDING IS PAID FOR AND WE NEED TO ESTABLISH A PLAN.  THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE
ANDREW GIANNELLI

ANSWER: Hello Rev. Giannelli,

I can honestly say I do not have much experience with building planning but let me ask a couple questions.

  1) Is the roller rink going to be strictly for your church members?

  2) Are you planning to open up the roller rink to the public
     charging an admission?

  3) Do you currently have a gymnasium  in your building?

I don't really need to know your answers but they will determine what size rink would be needed.  If it's for you church members only, then it doesn't have to be as large as one you would need if it were to become a public skating rink.

If it were open to the public you would need things like skates to rent to people, washrooms, benches to sit on, a snack bar, lockers etc. If it were for church members only you could get away with the bare minimum of things.

The reason for the gymnasium question was because there are some schools and/or Park Districts that use their gym to serve as a roller skating area also.

Here are a couple of web sites that might give you some ideas on planning.

This one has information you can read:
         http://www.seskate.com/build/index.html

This one does rink planning and consulting but there's information you can read also.
         http://www.rinkconsulting.com/

I'm not sure what kind of equipment you are looking for but if you care to be more precise I can possibly aim you in the right direction.

If I can be of further help, feel free to write me again.

Pat

Answer
Your best resource would be at this web site.   They are one of our governing bodies who can help you with just about anything.  Search through the web site and if you need to talk to someone either email or call them and they'll be more then happy to help you.

http://www.rollerskating.org/

They also have a newsletter that lists used equipment such as skates, sometimes lockers and kitchen equipment. If you contact them, make sure to ask about it.

Good Luck
Pat
