New Blades?

2016/7/21 17:59:40

Question
Hi,

I am an experienced skater looking for new blades.  The reason why is that my Salomon DR-120s are no longer supported, seeing as how Salomon itself no longer exists.  I'm having a hard time finding brakes for these skates, so I guess I'll get rid of them.  I can slide-stop using my wheels, but I don't like it.

This is the second time this "no more brakes" thing has happened to me with skates.  If there's no hope I can find heel-brakes for these, I'd like to find a skate that is good for leisurely long-distance treks, and that'll be around for a long time so my brake supply doesn't get cut off.

I find the lace-ups with one top buckle to be the most comfortable and durable.  Again, I like heel brakes.  I'm not averse to spending a reasonable amount on my new skates for the sake of comfort, etc.

Thank you for your help!

Answer
Hi Curt,
I have to be honest and say I'm not that familiar with all the different kinds of roller blades so it would be hard for me to name a skate that's similar to the Salomons.

But what you might want to try is going into your local roller rink and ask if their supplier can get you the brakes that you need for your skates.  Even if the company doesn't exist anymore, I'm sure there are parts still around that are for sale.

If the rink can't help you with that, then look through their catalogs because they have tons of choices.  They will be able to recommend a blade that's similar to yours and one that will not be extinct in a year.

Depending on what size skate you wear I did notice that someone on ebay is selling a mens Salomon DR-120, size 10.

Good Luck, I'm sure the sales person in the pro shop at your local rink will be able to help you.
