Junior vs. Adult Skis

Question
My 12 year old daughter is 5'7", weighs 115 lbs, wears a woman's size 10 shoe and is an advanced intermediate skier.  I bought used K2 True Love 153 cm woman's skis for her and am unsure that it is appropriate to move her into an adult ski.  The skis come to her lower lip and I don't want to jeopardize her safety by going too long and too heavy.  Your thoughts as to the appropriateness of what I've purchased?  Thank you.

Answer
Dear Scott --

You got your daughter a good all-mountain ski, that is about the right length and the right flex for her weight and her age.  This ski is not very stiff, so it should not be too hard for her to ski.

However, if it is more than 15 cm longer than her last ski, it may be a difficult transition, especially if she skis a lot of bumps or likes to race slalom.

In that case, you could work her up to her new ski by renting increasingly longer skis for the first few ski weekends.  Try to stay with a ski with similar flex and sidecut, so that the length is the only factor changing during the transition.

Please write back, if you have additional questions.  Happy skiing to you both.
