Old Bindings on New Skis

2016/7/15 11:39:07

Question
Hi, I have older straight skis (25 years old- Head GT 340 - 185's) and am looking to make the transition to new skis.
I replaced my bindings approx. 6-7 years ago to Salomom Quadrax. I can't find any model number on them but they are a 2 piece system. (Black with red swatches on sides -Tow piece separate from heel)
I went to a local sports store which also sells skis, and asked if I could put these bindings on new style skis and the clerk simply said no, and proceeded to try and sell me expensive skis and very expensive bindings.
I am 47 years old, an intermediate skier and only get out a few times (if that) a year. I do not wish to spend a lot of money and ws hoping to pick up some off season sale skis.
The current bindings have about 15-20 days use, mostly on very small hills in Michigan and Ontario.
Is this true that they can't be put on new skis?
If they can, will they effect the performance of the new skis.
Note: I did not have the skis with me so he didn't know what the bindings were like.
Thanks,
Gary

Answer
Hi Gary,

The salomon Quadrax will mount on a pair of deck-mount skis- but many shops do not order non-system skis because they Want to sell you both skis and bindings. The only issue you could possible face is regarding the width of the brakes for the ski you select.

The only other concern you may face in shops is whether the quardax remains on their "indemnification list", that is, will the manufacturer still cover the shop for mounting that binding. My guess on the quadrax is yes.

You can get skis from Head, Stockli, VIST, and Rossignol, among others, that are deck-mount.

Good luck,

Ron
