roller derby skates

Question
QUESTION:  I HAVE A PAIR OF FANDANGO SKATES THAT I ORDERED ONLINE HOWEVER WHEN I'M SKATING AT THE RINK IT'S LIKE I HAVE TO WORK VERY HARD TO GET AROUND THE RINK WHILE EVERYONE ELSE IS GLIDING PAST ME. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT I NEED TO PURCHASE SOME BONES AND A DIFFERENT PLATE FOR MY BOOT  AND THAT WOULD IMPROVE MY SKATES SO I COULD GLIDE AROUND THE RINK AND LOOK GOOD LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. WHAT DO YOU THINK I MAY NEED AND DO THE BEARINGS AND WHEELS BOTH NEED TO BE REPLACED?

ANSWER: Hi Steve,
The Fandango skates come with a good wheel and the bearings are rated an ABEC 5 which is pretty good.  If your skates are brand new and you haven't skated on them very much, just give the bearings time to break in.

The bearings are usually packed with grease which makes them roll a little slower until enough friction creates enough heat to melt the grease.  Once that happens they will roll much better.

You may also want to check to see if the nut on each wheel isn't tighten down to tight.  If you spin the wheel it should continue to roll freely.  If it stops quickly then loosen the nut up just enough to allow the wheel to roll better.

If after a decent amount of time goes by and you've skated on them quite a bit and they still don't roll....invest in a better bearing.  The wheels are fine so you don't need to buy those too.

Good Luck, I have a feeling if you skate on them more they will start to roll better for you.

If I can help with anything else, just email me again.

QUESTION: so the fact that i don't have these bones(wheels)shouldn't stop me from looking like those people whojust glide by

Answer
The fandango skates that I'm familiar with are regular roller skates right?  Not a low boot right?

If they're the regular skates they come with a wheel that is the same hardness (101's)as the Bones wheels so they should roll exactly the same.

If you have a different skate let me know and I'll do some research.  I thought there was only one style of the Fandango skates.

I hope this answers your question but if you have a different skate let me know and I'll check some more.
