adjusting bindings

I recently purchased a pair of used kids skis with Marker M1.2 bindings. When we got home my sons boots would not fit.  Is there an easy and safe adjustment I can do myself or would you recommend taking them into a ski shop? We live in the USA. My son is Approximatly 4 ft. tall and weighs about 50-55 Lbs. and this will be his first time on skis.

Hi Steve and thanks for the question.

I have to recommend you take them to a pro this time as there are too many variables that will determine the DIN setting [the number you need to set the binding to].

The DIN is a calculation taking into account a persons age, height, weight, ski length, boot length and skiing ability...simple really.

If this isn't calculated correctly then you risk broken bones as the boot will not release under the forces being created.

Also they should give them a safety check for you [rust, inner springs etc].

After the season - wind the DIN down to a lower number to release the tension on the spring - this will lengthen its life and store them in a dry place with a summer wax on the ski base. If you have a child that continues to grow, you will need to have them checked and reset again the following winter.

Have a great time watching your son learn to ski - it can be frustrating but it can make form some great holidays in the future.
