What are good Ski Conditions

Question
The two resorts I was considering were Hawksnest in North Carolina and Snow Shoe in West Virginia. I went ahead a booked the Snowshoe trip as there was only 1 open room left (or so they said). So am I actually going to get to ski this week or am I going to spend the week tripping over half the United States population (Dec. 20-23)?

Hi, I'm planning a ski trip for this coming week. I've never been skiing before so I don't have a clue about what to look for when it comes to weather conditions. I've been looking at two places (of which I'd rather not say to avoid any bias that you may have towards one over the other). We'll say resort 1 conditions are: temperatures 10 - 25 degrees, has received new snow lately. Resort 2 conditions are: temperatures 23-45 degrees, has not received any new snow lately (but they say as long as temperature goes below freezing at night they can make plenty of snow. I don't know anyone who has been skiing enought to know much more about the subject than me so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Based on the information you have given me, and nothing else, I would pick resort 1 based on the low temperature. The main reason 1 looks more attractive is that cold weather preserves snowfall over warmer weather, especially on ski slopes. Resort 2 has seen above melting temperatures during the day, whereby the slopes turn to slush. Then the groomers pack them down, the temperature drops below freezing, and then the snow machines blow ice on top of ice. Basically you are skiing on ice. Not fun.

Resort 1, as long as the coverage is good, and the base is above 24 inches, and assuming the temps have been 10-23 for consistently 3 weeks or longer, should be the better area.

If you tell me the names of the resorts, perhaps I have skied on of them.

Answer
Snowshoe- I've skiied that once... nice mountain , the runs are narrow - and at peak season it is going to be very important to be up on the lift 1st every day, and ski hard in the morning. Snoeshow gets skiied up very quickly and crowded by 11am, so early is better here. Have fun...!
