Parts for Mistral Competition SST

Question
Hello
I have a Mistral Competition SST with a 6.0 Sail. I bought the board new in 1987 in Vancouver BC. All the parts are original except for a retrofit quick connect on the boom. At the bottom of the mast is a rubber part that flexes. It is the original and now has cracks forming and I would like to but a new one so I have it when it finally breaks. I do not know the name of the part or where I could buy one. I live in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada. Our province has 100,000 lakes so it is great for windsurfing - when they are not frozen. If you could help with information about the rubber sail part I referenced I would really appreciate it. Thanks Larry Taylor

Answer
Hey Larry,

Here is the place to get your new u-joint.

You may need to use some penetrating oil on your old parts to get the nuts/bolts to break loose. There is also a steel washer welded to the female threads at the widest point of the hourglass. Grip this area in a vise, channel locks, or strap wrench to hold it for removing the old parts.
When you reassemble to the new u-joint, use Blue locktight on the threads, NOT Red. Blue is removable but holds the part in place, Red is permanent. If you have to change any of the bolts/nuts, they are metric. Be sure to buy stainless steel and get a nylock nut if you need a nut. Be sure to use any plastic washers that might be on your old base.

Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
