Question
Hi,

Pls advise what is different between Wave Boom,Slalom Boom Formula Boom and Race Boom, thanks in advance.

Answer
Hey Andre,

The main differences between all of these booms is that they are for specific types of sailing and sails. The optimum point of the boom where the sailor grips them is different based on the center of effort of the sail. Each type of boom is designed to work with the particular sail type it was designed for so that the sail will rig properly.

Wave booms tend to be a bit shorter as wave sails have a narrower profile. The center of effort of wave sails is more forward than other sails. This allows the sailor to power and depower the sail quickly during wave maneuvers.

Slalom booms are very similar to Race booms. Usually longer with the center of effort being farther back from the mast. Slalom & Race sails are designed for power and speed but also allow for smooth jibing during a race.

Formula booms are quite a bit longer but similar in design to Slalom and Race booms. They are usually used with larger sails as it takes more sail to power a Formula board than a Slalom or Race board. They usually are set up with an adjustable outhaul system so that the sailor can fine tune the sail while racing.

Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
