How to choose a windsurfing sail for my level

2016/7/22 14:41:27

Question
Hi, I am a strong intermediate windsurfer 185lbs, in the SF bay and usually sail with a 5.5m sail, on a 105L JP Australia excite ride board, in winds 18-25mph.  I'm trying to learn how to jibe.  I need to update my sails (>10 yrs old).  I'm a recreational sailor (not speed freak, not wave jumper) just want to have fun.  What sails would you recommend, and/or what considerations.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Also, are swap meets a good place to get lower priced sails, or is it caveat emptor

Answer
Sailworks Retro line.  You won't be sorry. Sail sizes you should probably need.  4.2 to 4.6,  5.5 and a 6.2 for light days if needed.  We don't have too many swap meets here so hard for me to say.  I always look in Craigslist and windsurfingclassifieds.com or call Sailworks and ask if they have any used or left over sails for sale.  Call around to all the online windsurfing retailers and see what they have used or left over.  Get a copy of windsurf magazine and check out all the ads.

Good Luck and Good Wind
