missing part

Question
I have an old alpha 160 f windsurfboard from HobieCat made in Austria No 45581400 1A 15'Rec by glasforns Inc. The ART Vario Mast Extension has a diameter of 48.5 mm

I cannot use the board because I am missing the connection between the mast and surfboard.  Does anybody know what the part looks like and if I need to have it custom made or if there is a place out there that sells this part

Answer
Hey Max,

The big question is what type of mast track is on your board? If it is a standard type mast track, then you are in luck as any new type mast base will work on your board.

Does your mast track look similar to this;
http://www.mistral.com/public/content/hardgoods/windsurfboards/malibu/index_eng....

A long slot with the back part of the slot slightly wider for about an inch? If yours is like this, then you can get a standard mast base and you will be good to go.

Check out these links for bases and extensions. The part that goes into the mast is standard for any and all standard size masts. DON'T get a 'skinny' extension as I'm fairly sure you will have a standard size mast (~2" across at the bottom).

http://www.chinooksailing.com/products/  Check out the single bolt bases and US cup extensions. You could go with the euro pin type but US is more popular and universal.

http://www.bigwinds.com/wind/category/5  Extensions can be found by clicking on the link to the left

http://www.windance.com/  Check out new bases/extensions under windsurfing and used  ones under used gear. Their rating system is right on or half a point low. Great place to buy gear from.

http://www.oceanairsports.com/cat/Windsurfing5.cfm  Another place for new stuff and misc parts for a variety of boards.

You can also check ebay and craigslist for used gear.

If your board has a specific mast to board connection and NOT the standard type mast track, the best advice I can give is ebay or craigslist. It's surprising what shows up on ebay and you can place a parts wanted ad on craigslist. Try posting in various cities near water and post in sporting goods. Be sure to put windsurfing in the ad so it will show up on searches.

Best of luck find what you need.
Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
