boom / mast knot

Question

windsurf
Hello, I have just been given a free board, sail & misc parts.  It is an old Hifly 300.  I windsurfed once 15 years ago @ a resort.
My question is I don't know an uphaul from a downhaul, how to tie the boom to the mast etc,.....I've read your answer to a previous question, and I believe I have everthing needed to sail.  I'm looking for instructions how to rig this with zero knowledge of terminology and equipment. I live in central Michigan so I have 5 big lakes just waiting for me...I would like to practice a little this fall before the snow flies!!!  Thanks Tim

Answer
Hey Tim,

I'll refer you to a previous question where I have written rigging down in detail. On page 4 of my answers, look for 'Running ropes on the sail' from Kimberly. Your boom could be rigged just bit differently but the method I've described will work just fine. Looking at your picture, the large white and blue rope is your uphaul. This is what you pull the sail out of the water with. You should rig your boom so that the knot is on top and the rope is coming out and down towards the bottom of the mast. For a break down of parts and a drawing to match, on page 2 look for 'How do I set up my windsurfer' from Shaun. Both of these answers should help you quite a bit. Check out the info I've mentioned and if you have more questions, please feel free to ask.

Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
