Good Board to use

Question
I weigh about 200lbs, 6ft tall, but very strong and active. I windsurfed using a 360 board for 6 years. I had mastered this one quite well, although i had never done water starts.  I accidentally broke the board some 3 years ago and have recently decided to get back into windsurfing.

I have just obtained a Fanatic Hot Rat board which I know is 120l and I believe that this is too small in volume.

I have the opportunity to buy a Starboard FreeFormula 167 and I was wondering if this would be good to me.  I windsurf on an inland lake which usually has a reasonable breeze.

I presume I would need to learn Water Starts to use this board?

Thanks Andy.

Answer
Hey Andy,

The Free Formula boards are designed after the Formula boards which are a race oriented board. The Free line is more for recreational sailors looking for higher performance and still have a board that is easy to sail. They a bit of a cross between Formula and Freeride.

The 167 should work well for you for light and higher winds. You should be able to rope start this board and also learn waterstarts. Then you will be able to use the Fanatic board when the winds are over 18kts. The Starboard would be a good board for the light wind days and advancing your abilities to a high intermediate/advanced level.

Hope this helps.
Keep on sailing,
Windlover
