Returning to Windsurfing

Question
Hi, I used to be mad keen on windsurfing until 15 years ago when family circumstances forced me to stop. I still have all my old kit, in good nick, which is an F2 Lightning, Alpha 120F and an Aquata 265 (same as the classic Lightwave 265). I have a set of Mountifield wave sails and a couple of Gaastra slalom sails from that era, as well as a Rotho two part wave mast etc. I used to be able to waterstart, carve gibe, sail in waves etc, particularly when I lived on Hayling Island.

I guess I'm looking for advice on what I can sensibly use of my existing kit and what I should buy. My feelings are that the F2 is probably ok for light wind stuff even with the old rig as long as I don't mind perhaps being fairly slow on the water. It seems to me that the medium wind conditions which is where I would have used the Alpha has seen the greatest change and it might be advisable to replace it with a more modern board like a Mistral Screamer ? Do you think I should get some new sails for the Force 3 to Force 6 area and if so what sizes and would they be compatible with my old masts or should I look to get a new mast as well ?

Thanks for your time to respond to this. Cheers

Answer
With equipment that old, it micht be a problem to try to mate new sails with it.  The reason being that the newer sails are tuned to the newer shorter and wider board dimensions. The  center of effort on the newer sails will throw off the balance  points if used on that old of a board.  You might try to find some old used sails to use on the older equipment.  I know this because I tried to use a Sailworks race sail that was about 14 years old on a new Angulo board and the balance was totally weird.  The board kept rounding up into the wind no matter where I set the mast track. Once I put my friends new sail on it, it was much more in balance.  I once read this in a magazine but did not believe it would make that much difference until I tried it.
