mistral windsurfing board

Question
QUESTION: I have a Mistral windsurfing board. But I don't know its specifications I mean

it seems me like old technology board and don't know if its suitable for me.

Its Mistral (Specialized Limited Edition ) funboard, its length 275 cm and

width is 55 cm. and volume is 108 or 110 l. and also I'm in early intermediate

level and 55 kg. 162 cm. In videos or in internet all boards are more shorter

and I want to learn my board's class what I can do with it ..speed ??

anyway I thought that I could explain my problem thanks for your help

ANSWER: If the volume of your board is indeed in the 108 to 110 liter range it is considered an advanced board.  That means that you will not be able to sail it unless you learn advanced windsurfing techniques such as waterstarting and jibing.  Due to the low volume you will be unable to stand on it and pull the sail up out of the water as it will sink and be very unstable.  You need to learn on a board that is at least 130 liters or more .  One other thing; learning on old equipment is way more difficult than on boards that were made in the last 5 or so years.  Board development has come a long way and the newer boards are vastly superior in all aspects.  It will take you much longer to learn on old equipment than on a newer board.

QUESTION: Thanks for your answer... I already practice on a board which is 180 l. so I only
want to know is after I become in advance level is this board suitable for me or
not ? I mean I see so many boards which are more shorter and wider so mine is
275 cm is that mean old technology or only its class is that ..long board...

thanks again

Answer
You need to learn on a board that is more than 130 liters.  The board you are referring to at 275cm and about 110 liters is too small to learn on.  It does not necessarily mean it is old technology.  Before your buy ANYTHING make sure you know how old it is (year it was made).  Any board older than 10 years is garbage.  As boards age they begin to absorb water and they are unsailable.  Do not let anyone tell you that a board older than say 10 years will be a good beginner board.  If you buy it at any price you will regret it.
