the bottom of my feet get sore

Question
When I walk on a distance on the treadmill or outside I notice that I get sore, irritated, almost raw spots on the balls of my feet.  I think it's from my socks.  Can you recommend a sock that will not be so irritating?

Answer
It is important to use socks made from fabrics designed to wick moisture away from your skin. If you are using a quality running shoe, the mesh of the shoe will allow the moisture to escape as water vapor. Moisture buildup next to the skin causes increased friction that can lead to sores and blisters.

A couple of brands come to mind, but a good running specialty store will have lots of options for you. I was thinking of Balega and Wright socks. The Wright brand makes a double-layer sock that gives the maximum protection against blisters. When I discovered double-layer socks years ago, it made an immediate improvement in my ultramarathon races, by eliminating blisters.
