Long-Distance Walking Training Plan for Active Adults
Question
Hi,
I'm a 53yr old male, reasonably fit and active. I have always walked for pleasure (usually about 60 - 90 minutes brisk walking, 2 or three times each week) and visit the gym about 3 times per week where I do about 20 minutes aerobic and 20 minutes weights.
I'd like to train towards attempting some longer distance (6 hours per day, 5 days per week maybe?)walks later this year and in the future. I think I'd respond well to a plan that helps to build up the stamina I imagine I'll need.
Can you help?
Many thanks,
Julian
Answer
Julian:
Are these long distance walks to be competitive events or personal goals? I ask because few people talk of spending multiple hours several days per week unless there is some strong goal.
You certainly have a strong foundation on which to build such endurance. Is there a time frame connected with your endurance goals?
I can definitely help you with a program, but not within this question and answer forum. I have coached many long distance runners and walkers over the years and would be happy to work with you if you will contact me directly.
