Question
QUESTION: i m trying to swim in a swimming pool of 50 meter but i can swim only 30 m. i have started from last 15 days but i have 1 month practice last year, how many time i need to cross 50 m approximately,
my main problem is that at 25 m i have breathing problem started but still i manage to swim 30meter, how can i extend my limit?

ANSWER: Hello Sameer, it seems that your problem is your endurance and stamina. There is no set time for a 50m but anything under 2-3 minutes should be alright. It seems as if you need to build your lungs to help you travel farther. Theres no real way of doing this other than just swimming and letting time do its job. However, it is possible to extend your limit if you go at a slower pace (moving your limbs slower). Take your time and as time goes on, you'll begin to improve. Do not expect immediate results, it takes time.

I hope this helps.

QUESTION: sir...
thanks for your advice in my firs question.now i can swim up to 40m after 1.5 month but my problem is that i can't take a complete breath when my face outside so oxyzen intake reduce each time and finally i have to stop swimming at the midway of swimming pool. my body remain flat when face inside but at the time of breathing it doesn't so i exhaust earlier. please give me some guidance to extend my limitation

Answer
Hello Sameer,

I think you might be focusing too much on speed that you take in less air. To fix this, when you breath from your side (in freestyle) try to raise your head a bit higher out of the water and slow down a bit when you take your breaths so you have more time to take in air. Remember you are building endurance right now so it is not so important to focus too much on speed. Speed will come with practice but breathing is one of the building blocks to swimming fast. Another exercise you can do is to hold your breath for as long as you can. Try to time it so you know how long you've been doing it. Do it a couple times each day and in time, you will get better.
Another sport that can help build your lungs is definitely running. If you run at least a mile a week you will gradually improve your respiratory system and it will enable you to hold your breath longer in the pool with less efforts.

I hope this helps you, good luck!
