handing riding upto finish line

Question
hello sir, why most of the jockeys hand ride from final furlong or sometimes final 2 furlongs to the finish line? why not smacking the horse with the whip continuously? is it a rule passed by the club?

Answer
The whip can stop a horse as quickly as it may urge him. A skilled jockey can hand ride a horse without interrupting the rhythm of his stride. Most poor riders will rely solely on the whip for help. A good jockey is able to help a horse physically by holding his head up and giving just enough rousing at the same time being as still and balanced as possible.
