BLINKERS on horses

2016/7/15 11:22:37

Question
hello sir. my neighbor, an ex-jockey told me that a horse which doesnt pass through another horse while galloping in the race requires BLINKERS. is he correct? are there any other reasons why to put on BLINKERS on racehorses?

Answer
That would not be a correct statement. There are many reason for using blinkers as there are for shadow rolls. Some horse need not to see the whip coming. Some do not like to see the rider or other horses come up from behind. Some may need their vision focused only forward and away from side distractions. Some horses may wait for other horses and not charge to front if they can see them behind.
