Yearling Thoroughbred

2016/7/15 11:23:45

Question
I recently purchased a yearling thoroughbred (March foal).  She has an impressive pedigree.  My first question is regarding feed...any recommendations?  Also, what type of exercises are best to keep her in good shape.  I don't want to completely close the door to racing...I just want to keep her in good shape so if the opportunity arises she could spend a year at a racing facility and be ready to race.

Thanks

Answer
The best thing for your yearling right now is to be turned out with others in a field where they are free to run, play and socialize. You should feed a high quality grain and plenty of good quality hay as well. Follow the directions on the back since feeds vary in formulation. You will want a high protein feed formulated for mare and foal.
